A Message from Our Founder
Hi, I'm Oscar, a Japanese learner and app developer. I created Shukudai because I wanted to solve a problem I saw firsthand in my language learning journey.
While studying Japanese with my teacher, I noticed how much time she spent creating and grading homework instead of focusing on what she does best — teaching. As an app developer by trade, I knew there had to be a better way.
I wanted my teacher to be able to focus on our lessons and the valuable time we spend together, not on administrative tasks. I also wanted to minimize paper use and make the whole homework process more efficient for both of us.
That's how Shukudai was born — a tool that uses AI to handle the repetitive parts of homework creation and grading, while still keeping the human teacher at the center of the learning experience.

As an app developer, I built Shukudai with a focus on user experience, efficiency, and scalability. My technical background helps me create tools that are powerful yet easy to use.
Student's Experience
As a Japanese learner myself, I understand the challenges students face. I designed Shukudai to provide the practice and feedback that I wished I had during my learning journey.

Our Story
Shukudai began when Oscar, a Japanese language student and app developer, realized how much time his teacher was spending creating and grading homework instead of actually teaching. After trying various tools and finding none that truly addressed this pain point, the idea for Shukudai was born.
Development started as a personal project to help Oscar's own Japanese teacher, but it quickly became clear that many other teachers and students could benefit from this solution. What began as a way to minimize paper use and save time has evolved into a comprehensive platform for language homework.
Today, we're in early development but growing quickly. Our vision is to expand beyond Japanese to support teachers and learners in many languages, while maintaining our core focus on quality homework that complements human teaching.
Environmental Impact
One of our founding principles was to reduce paper waste in language education. By digitizing homework, we help save trees and reduce carbon footprints.
A single teacher with 20 students can save over 2,000 sheets of paper per year by switching to digital homework. That's approximately one tree saved every year!
